National Team Fencer Susan Scanlan Briefly Detained in China on Swine Flu Fears

Fears of the Swine Flu outbreak have already caused the cancellation of a Grand Prix fencing event in Puerto Rico this June, but now have also resulted in the detaining of US fencer Susie Scanlan who was joining the US team to compete at a Grand Prix event in China. Scanlan, who trains at Princeton University in New Jersey, was one of 75 US passengers on a flight into China who showed elevated temperatures and was detained upon entering the country until she could be medically cleared.

Filming a National Commercial for the US Olympic Committee!!

Because of the economy the US Olympic Commitee is launching a campaign to solicit individual donations to support the Olympic Team.

I flew out to Los Angeles and joined 80 winter Olympic athletes and about 10 summer athletes in filming a Public Service Announcement that will air nationally on NBC, ESPN and a few other networks.

It was back to the land of Olympic credentials and that Olympic feeling…gave me the chills to see the winter athletes still on their journey’s to qualify for Vancouver!

I spent more time in the air than on the ground to film a few lines that may or may not be used in the commercial! (Fingers crossed that they are!!)

The theme is…”It takes more than…(Fill in the blank)” with perseverance, hard work etc.  with the final “it takes” being a request that it takes everyone and money make it happen.

With a winter athlete for Ice Hockey! GO TEAM USA!

My line…”It takes more…than a sword”.  lol. which I said about 40 times as they filmed.  I also did some pictures for potential print ads and on-line stuff.

The ads will air May 29-July 4th period.
