Pittsburg Steeler James Harrison Snubs Obama and White House Invitation

May 19, 2009

It’s an American tradition.  You win the World Series, Super Bowl or any achieve any other numerous things both sporting and non and you get a White House invitation.

I have been blessed with two White House visits after the Athens and Beijing Olympics

What an honor to be invited to the White House, right?

Apparently not for James Harrison of the Pittsburg Steelers who almost seems offended that he has been invited for accomplishing something and would prefer he be  just invited.

From Sports Illustrated Online:
Last week, Harrison told Pittsburgh’s WTAE television station he won’t accompany his teammates on their Thursday visit to the White House to meet President Barack Obama. “This is how I feel — if you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl,” Harrison said. “As far as I’m concerned, [Obama] would’ve invited Arizona if they had won.”

Yes, he would have invited Arizona if they won James!  That’s the whole point…Celebrating big achievements that all Americans can be proud of!

Visiting the White House is a symbolic reward for excellence.

Really strange stance, right?
