When I’m Tired I Want to (fill in the useless activity) when I should be (fill-in the productive activity). In Need of Advice!

November 30, 2009

I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to make myself more efficient and productive.   While I’m a pretty busy guy who generally gets a lot done, I still feel like there is more or at least a better way for me to get things done in my life.

Now, when I’m a) motivated and well-rested or b) under the gun of a deadline I can get a remarkable amount accomplished in a short period of time as I think it true with most even semi-functioning people.

But what to do when things are not so urgent, but still very important (See 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) to achieving your goals?

I’ve been thinking a lot about this over the past weekend because I had a few days of free time (which I rarely have) and I had some big non-urgent, but very powerful (i think) plans to get things done that would have helped me achieve my big goals and I wasn’t able to get it done because of procrastination.

And these times happen throughout a month.  You know those times when you’re tired, but there is still time left in the day and you’re “unsupervised”, so to speak.

Over this past weekend and generally during these times, I want to a) watch TV b) waste time on useless emailing c) eat junk food or just generally procrastinate.(and then I generally feel bad that I’ve done these things later!)

I’ve been trying to figure out better strategies for using these hours in my day.  Right now, I feel like these moments are even counter-productive to me especially if, for example, I eat junk food or watch TV and end up staying up later because I’m zoned out in TV land.(Curse you VH1!)

What are your thoughts? how do you deal with these times?  What should I be doing with this time?

Should I just power-nap and then try to re-focus? Although I think that really isn’t specific enough to turn these times around for me.

Yours Truly,

Wasting Time in NYC (My ode to Dear Abby here!)

Good Marketing?!?!

November 30, 2009

So, this underwear brand ”Exofficio” boasts that you can wear it  for 6 weeks straight!

The package reads, “Seasoned travelers save room by packing just one or two pairs of our underwear. ”

Yowser!  We spend a lot of time on the road, but I think I’m going to pass on this strategy for packing light!

Big Things Coming…

November 25, 2009

Jason Rogers and I had a photo shoot today with the amazing photographer Chiun-Kai Shih.   We met him over a year ago and have been dying to work with him and his team.

They were awesome and these pictures are just a taste! (taken with my blackberry off of a computer screen!)  The shoot is for Fabric Magazine and next week we are shooting something for Gotham Magazine with a very fun celebrity. (Can’t spill the beans on this yet!)

We’ve got some great projects coming up that we think will really continue to push the sport of fencing into the public eye and hopefully bring home some sponsorships!  Thanks for your support! -Tim

Fencing Done Right! The Memorial Calarese Competition in Palermo, Italy

November 23, 2009

This is how fencing should be!

From the FIS web site

PALERMO
- Great fencing tonight in Palermo at the Teatro Politeama during the “Memorial Calarese,” a trophy to honor the memory of one of the best Sicilian saber fencers ever. Aldo Montano won in the final bout over Nicolas Limbach 15-10.

With about 1000 people present including Michele Maffei and Rolando Rigoli, the competition started with Nicolas Limbach (GER) against Mamoudou Seta (SEN) with a 15-7 win. Then Giampiero Pastore (ITA) beat Benjamin Reshetnikov (RUS) 15-9.

In the quarter finals Luigi Tarantino (ITA) fenced against the 2008 Olympic Champion Zhong Man (CHN). After an intense bout Zhong won 15-10. Lastly, Aldo Montano (ITA), had a real hard time to beat Jason Rogers (USA) 15-11, after an 8-7 partial.

In the semifinals, Pastore recovered with a 0-4 against Limbach (5-5 first then 7-7), but eventually he lost 9-15. Aldo Montano on the other hand beat Zhong Man 15-13 in the Olympic champions duel.

Montano wa undefeated in the final also. Against the current world champion, Nicolas Limbach, Aldo was ahead from start to finish. The last point at 15-10 was few minutes past midnight, local time.

NY Magazine and Bennet Marcus: “Louis Vuitton’s Man Pants Are Not Made for Fencers”

November 20, 2009

NY Magazine has a great little write-up on Olympic Fencer Jason Rogers and how his fencer butt can “get in the way” of fitting into stylish clothing!

Great story of how he flew to walk in a fashion show for Louis Vuitton in Paris and ran into this issue! Loving Bennet Marcus for a great article!

The Huffington Post picked up on the page 6 article! (NY POST: http://bit.ly/2vfIP2) Sweet!

They included some nice pictures from last night’s Cinema Society premier of the Private Lives of Pippa Lee we attended, my time fencing with President Obama and my (losing!) Wii fencing experience with designer Chris Benz during fashion week at Saks 5th Ave.

Page 6 Fencers! (The Return of Fencing Continues!)

November 17, 2009

In fun news, Page 6 of the NY Post has a great write up on my teammate Jason Rogers and me today!

If you don’t have time to pick up a copy, you can check out the article here:

Fencing is continuing its comeback!

Back in the days of Kings and Royalty, fencing had a fun and powerful societal niche based on elegance, precision, style, and of course PASSION and one’s HONOR!   While we aren’t planning on bringing back first blood duels (All our socialites would be dead quickly this way!), the rest of it we hope to resurrect!

Page 6 certainly a positive step! (Thanks to Amy Brownstein PR for a huge assist on this and Jennifer Keil. YOU GUYS ROCK!)

If you want to bring some awesome fencing/fashion into your life for an event, photospread or article, let us know!

Yours,

Tim and Jason

Brace Yourself!

November 16, 2009

headshotTim

Hi Friends,

Got a few emails this weekend asking me why there were no new posts last week!  Well, the reasons are all positive!

I’m very close to signing with a literary agent for my book which is a positive lessons style book about my Olympic journey and those of my teammates.   Still a long way to go before anything is published, but my writing time has been consumed with that aspect.

Also, our season is starting very soon so training has been going strong, but the goal of winning gold in London in 2012 while also elevating the sport of fencing to the levels of the other major olympic powers remains.

Jason and I are in hot pursuit of the bigger fish…and those just take time to develop, but BRACE YOURSELF, we’re only just getting started!

Yours in Fencing For Everyone!

Tim

PS A little birdy says you should pick up the NY Post tomorrow! (Next level incoming!)
