WSJ: Fencer With Headscarf Is a Cut Above the Rest

June 24, 2011

This could be one of the most amazing and powerful stories of the London 2012 Games if she qualifies!

Wall Street Journal:
When Ibtihaj Muhammad fastens her headscarf, or hijab, around her chin, one of its purposes is to deflect unwanted attention.

But when she wears a hijab in a sporting arena, it often has the opposite effect.

Another Saber Goes Through a Glove at the NY Fencing World Cup.

June 24, 2011

Canadian fencer Vincent Couturier had an unbroken saber puncture the inside of his glove today at the NY World Cup.

Luckily for him, the blade didn’t go too deeply into his hand and after being taped he was able to continue.

This comes just days after Spanish Olympian Jaime Marti had his hand run-through with a saber during training. That injury put him in the ER and prevented him from competing here.
