2008 Olympic silver medalist Tim Morehouse and Olympic Fencing Team members will host a book signing and free live fencing demonstration at Barnes & Noble in Union Square (33 East 17th Street NYC) on Saturday, Jan. 12 Start time is 2 p.m.

Featured will be Morehouse’s fast-paced memoir “American Fencer: Modern Lessons from an Ancient Sport”. Written with best-selling author Garth Sundem, Morehouse describes his life’s inspiring trajectory from a rough New York City neighborhood to the Olympic podium.

Morehouse, a two-time national fencing champion, will be joined by Olympians Daryl Homer, Keeth Smart and Dagmara Wozniak for live fencing demonstrations and to share inspirational stories from their Olympic journeys.

The event is free and open to the public. Those purchasing American Fencer at the Union Square store or online at www.barnesandnoble.com will receive priority seating at the event.

New York City native, Morehouse is an Olympic silver medalist in fencing (2008), three-time Olympic Team Member (2004, 2008, 2012) two-time individual U.S. National Champion (2010, 2011), seven-time World Cup medalist and the top-ranked United States men’s saber fencer from 2008-11. He recently returned from the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, England, where he finished in the top-8 in both the individual and team men’s saber events.

Morehouse recently founded the Fencing in the Schools Foundation (www.fencingintheschools.org), which will launch pilot programs in six Harlem schools in March, 2013. Approximately 2,000 children are scheduled to participate, making it the largest introductory fencing program in the U.S.

Well known for promoting the sport of fencing, Morehouse produces Fencing Masters, the largest fencing spectator tournament in the country. He works tirelessly to publicize the sport he loves, and even taught President Barack Obama to fence on the White House lawn!

A veteran presenter, Morehouse has spoken to more than 40,000 students across the U.S. since 2008 and has been the keynote speaker for companies such as Blackrock, Habitat for Humanity, Google, British Petrolium (BP), Hugo Boss, AmeriCorps and Ameriprise.

Calvin Klein Collection and Visionaire Present Visionaire 56: SOLAR

June 8, 2009

Italy WC 053

After we arrived from Italy I headed home changed clothes and immediately headed out to an event hosted by Calvin Klein with Jason. (Yes, this post is a little late…jet lag!)

I don’t remember too much from the event other than I was trying to sound coherent while talking to people!   It was also a “white party” which meant searching through my closet for a white outfit.   Never an easy task!

Oh yeah,  funniest part was watching these trays of cupcakes being carried by waiters all night since all the fashion and model types were ignoring them!  I was afraid to go near them myself…don’t want to be the one guy eating the cupcakes at the model party!

Italy WC 051

Tyra Banks, Olivia Palermo, Andrew Saffir, Daniel Benedict, Josh Reed, Danica Lo, Chloe Sevigny and a boatload of models were in attendance! (Amongst many many others!)

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has helped thousands of children battle cancer and their research has helped improve the recovery rate drastically for children diagnosed with Cancer.

This evening I was privileged to attend their fundraiser fashion show which my friend Scott Buccheit helped to put together and in which my friend Miss New York Leigh-Taylor Smith was walking in! (She did a fantastic job!)

The event was at the 26th and Lexington armory and featured a silent and live auction as well as dancing and a fashion show where the dresses were later sold for charity.    The event was called Design Cares presents Kaleidoscope of Dreams to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and fashion designers donated dresses for the cause.st-judges-hospital-event-065

Plenty of familar faces abound, Rachelle Hruska from the Guest of a Guest social scene blog, Tia Walker, Shannon Dougherty, Patrick McMullan, Tony Sirico (aka Pauly Walnuts) from the Sopranos , Jaslene from Americas Next Top Model amongst many others.

Also made some new friends with the very nice Alise Shoemaker and her friend Amy who also walked in the show.

“My Olympic Journey” A One Night Only Special Presentation! (March 31st at Pace University)

March 25, 2009

medals

JOIN ME NEXT WEEK! (But for what, Tim?)

Many of you know that I’ve been speaking at schools since I returned from Beijing (close to 6000 children now!), but I’ve also been working hard to start sharing my story with adults.

The last 6 months I’ve been crafting  my Olympic Journey  into a corporate style motivational presentation with the help of Paige Hague-Stover.   Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Vidmar has also been a great mentor to me since he’s made a career out of inspiring and motivating adults.

So…Next week on Tuesday, March 31st I’ll be giving my presentation to be filmed so I can send it out to speakers bureaus and I’d love for you to join!

You’ll get to learn all about fencing (Yes, it is a sexy sport!), and how I went from nearly being kicked off the fencing team when I started to an Olympic Medalist! (Fun, right?) There will also be many surprises in store!

“My Olympic Journey
Tuesday, March 31st. Doors open 7pm, presentation runs 7:30-8:30.

Location:
Pace University
18th Floor Dining Room at 163 William Street
