Our US Men’s Foil Team is putting up some HISTORIC results.
I don’t know why this isn’t a bigger story but 2012 US Olympic team member Alex Massialas is leading the way with strong fencing in both the individual and team events. He finished SECOND in the individual event at this past weekend’s world cup in St. Petersburg as the team also captured the silver medal!!!
He’s won back-to-back medals at world cups (a bronze last tournament!) and I think the last person to do that was Cliff Bayer back in 1990s!!!
He’s clearly becoming our best men’s fencer across all weapons!
Not far behind, Gerek Meinhardt who also took Bronze at the past world cup made the top-8 in St. Petersburg.
Overall, our men’s foil team including Race Imboden and Miles Chamley-Watson has now won back to back medals in the team world cup events including the first ever gold medal in US history in the the team event.
They are looking like strong medal contenders for RIO 2016 if they can keep it up. Might we be looking at 2-3 Olympic medals out of our men’s foil team at the Rio Games? It certainly looks like they are capable.
