Olympic Bobsled champion Steve Holcomb, the driver on the historic Vancouver team, paid a visit to Manhattan Fencing Center and showed off his amazing gold medal to the kids.
He’s in town doing some promotional work for Mercedes and I had the great opportunity to hang out with him. His life is a whirlwind right now of appearances and promotional events. He’s really a great guy and a true champion. He spoke a bit to the kids and took pictures.
Most interesting fact is that that they only spend about 2-minutes a day actually on the race track and the rest of the time they spend weight lifting! He said it takes 10-15 years to get enough experience to do the sport well since you can only do it for a tiny amount of time each day! Wow.
Manhattan Fencing Center members Daryl Homer and Eric Fass got to check out his gold (below) and hopefully they’ll be holding some gold medals of their own in the near future as they head to Jr. World Championships in Baku tomorrow.
One last picture of Olympian James Williams with coach Yury Gelman and myself. Raising his hands in victory after he just cleaned out his locker. He’s heading to San Francisco to begin his new working at a hedge fund.
Will this be his last time at Manhattan Fencing? I hope not.
(NEW YORK) Recently, wunderkind Gotham-based fencers Tim Morehouse and Jason Rogers stepped behind the lens for a photo shoot of Olympic proportions–and let The Daily in on all the details. The two medalists took off their protective masks and slipped into ultra-chic duds to take on roles as fashion models for the afternoon. Shot in a Soho loft, the scene was urban and relaxed. An elated Morehouse explained, “It’s a very new experience for us. We’re both learning and there’s a lot more to modeling than many people probably realize.” He laughed and added, “Who doesn’t love trying on awesome clothes and taking pictures?” Touché.
