Fencing.net: Meinhardt (USA) Receives Silver Medal Amid Controversey at Jr. Worlds in Baku

In an unprecedented move by the FIE, the original silver medal winner was excluded from the event and, as a result, bronze medalist Gerek Meinhardt will be awarded the silver

Serge Timacheff reported in person on the event: “Italian Tommaso Lari, who apparently broke a wireless device, threw some things, and swore at the referee after losing the final bout to Egyptian Alaa El din El Sayed, was given a black card by the referee. The FIE has upheld the call after reviewing the issue.”

Fencing.Net: Kharlan Dominates Women’s Saber at Jr. Worlds in Baku

Olga Kharlan (UKR) dominated the Junior Women’s Sabre event.  In the finals she raced to an 8-0 lead against Anna Varhelya (HUN) and won the Junior World Championship 15-2.  Kharlan adds a Junior World Championship to her 3 senior grand prix golds for the season.
