Fencing.Net: Zagunis 3rd in London; Kharlan notches World Cup Victory

The rivalry between Ukraine’s Olga Kharlan and USA’s Mariel Zagunis is doing just fine.  The Ukrainian team anchor notched the victory at the Women’s Sabre World Cup event this weekend in London, England where she defeated Italy’s Gioia Marzocca in the finals.  Mariel Zagunis took 3rd after losing to Marzocca in the semi-finals.

BBC News: Fencing Pin Up Makes Her Point

I checked the data on my blog today and saw an EXPLOSION of searches for Olga Kharlan, the Ukrainian Olympic women’s saber gold medalist in team from Beijing….
Turns out BBC news had a world-wide feature on her…some of the story is below and there is also a link to a great interview of her as well!
Go fencing and love the world-wide publicity!  Will she be our first international star? We could use one!

Olga Kharlan (UKR) dominated the Junior Women’s Sabre event.  In the finals she raced to an 8-0 lead against Anna Varhelya (HUN) and won the Junior World Championship 15-2.  Kharlan adds a Junior World Championship to her 3 senior grand prix golds for the season.
