Our US Men’s Foil Team is putting up some HISTORIC results.
I don’t know why this isn’t a bigger story but 2012 US Olympic team member Alex Massialas is leading the way with strong fencing in both the individual and team events. He finished SECOND in the individual event at this past weekend’s world cup in St. Petersburg as the team also captured the silver medal!!!
He’s won back-to-back medals at world cups (a bronze last tournament!) and I think the last person to do that was Cliff Bayer back in 1990s!!!
He’s clearly becoming our best men’s fencer across all weapons!
Not far behind, Gerek Meinhardt who also took Bronze at the past world cup made the top-8 in St. Petersburg.
Overall, our men’s foil team including Race Imboden and Miles Chamley-Watson has now won back to back medals in the team world cup events including the first ever gold medal in US history in the the team event.
They are looking like strong medal contenders for RIO 2016 if they can keep it up. Might we be looking at 2-3 Olympic medals out of our men’s foil team at the Rio Games? It certainly looks like they are capable.
Very nice to see fencing tournaments looking good and producing marketing materials like promotional videos.
We just need to make our “regular” tournaments i.e. world cups and NACS (world champs and Olympics look pretty good) also have this same kind of promotion and improved appearance. Most of the world saber tournaments are still in high school gyms or odd places with no spectators and our nationals are still in convention centers with no spectators.
Posters, t-shirts and other promotional materials will be rolling out soon!
I hope you’ll be joining us for Fencing Masters: Kick-Off to London on June 26, 2012 featuring most of the US Olympic Fencing team competing in London 2012. http://www.fencingmastersnyc.com (Great 1/2 price deal going on now for floor seats!)
Team USA has had a really great showing so far at Pan Ams capturing all the individual gold medals! Also, the men’s epee and women’s saber captured gold today in the first day of team competition.
I’ve been a bit behind in blogging with my book stuff taking up my spare time! Super congrats to my saber teammate Daryl Homer for the gold medal in men’s saber! James Williams and I finished in top-8 in men’s saber.
